Qasr Al Hosn

In Downtown Abu Dhabi, visitors can learn about the city’s history at the newly restored Qasr Al Hosn fort. Built in 1761 to protect the only freshwater well on the island, the fort is Abu Dhabi’s oldest stone building and is nestled between the city’s modern skyscrapers. Next to Qasr Al Hosn is the House of Artisans – a celebration of Emirati traditions. Visitors can watch locals handcraft fishing nets, weave using date palm leaves, demonstrate pearl diving and discover the importance of ‘gahwa’ – the ritual for drinking Arabic coffee.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the world’s largest mosques and an architectural masterpiece that beautifully combines Islamic architecture and design. The stunning structure is covered by the largest dome of its kind- one of 82 white domes across the whole building and features the world’s largest hand woven carpet. While a visit by day is an unforgettable experience, the mosque is visually stunning at night when it is beautiful lit. Its majesty and scale can be seen across the city, particularly during the drive in to the city from the airport.

Qasr Al Watan

The stunning palace houses the formal offices of the President, Vice President and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and provides visitors with an understanding of the UAE's governing traditions whilst allowing access to halls typically reserved for official state guests.

Founders Memorial

This unique cultural attraction celebrates the life, legacy and values of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE, known as the Father of the Nation. This memorial offers locals and international travellers a unique way to immerse themselves in the history and culture of the UAE, with experiences designed to reveal aspects of the country’s broader social, cultural and environmental heritage, from art to stories, exhibitions and more.

Heritage Village

Meet Abu Dhabi’s Heritage Village, a family-friendly spot to experience the traditional way of life in the desert. The village is an immersive time capsule, with an old-world souk (market), mosque and camp modelled on life in pre-modern UAE. Located on the Marina Mall Island close to the city centre, the traditional oasis village offers a glimpse at Abu Dhabi’s past. Here you can shop, discover artefacts and watch artisans make pottery, blow glass and weave fabric on a loom.

Dates Market

Thousands take away huge quantities for friends and relatives back home. The notion that only Emiratis and Arabs love dates can be challenged if one visits the “dates bazaar” in winter to buy the finest dates of Arabia. Approximately about 400 types of dates with the passing of seasons throughout the year are available. You may visit the market and try before buying and you will mostly enjoy the taste.

Louvre Abu Dhabi

Louvre Abu Dhabi represents the dynamic nature of the contemporary Arab world while celebrating the region’s vibrant multicultural heritage. The museum brings different cultures together to shine fresh light on the common stories of humanity, beyond individual civilizations, times or places.

Al Ain's famous camel market is a wonderful place in which to immerse yourself in traditional, authentic Arab culture – and also take a few fantastic photographs. From young Arabian camels that might grow up to be racers to beautiful adult camels ideal for breeding, the market is a one-of-a-kind experience offering a closer look at the animal that enjoys a special place in Emirati heritage.

Al Ain Museum

History buffs will fall in love with this charming museum that tells the story of the UAE’s ancient history. This is the oldest museum in the UAE, established in 1969 under the leadership of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the UAE and affectionately known as Father of the Nation. Built to chart the history of Al Ain from the Stone Age through to the foundation of the UAE in 1971, the museum houses artefacts recovered from the many archaeological sites scattered across the region, including flint tools and arrowheads dating back to the sixth millennium BCE.

Al Ain Oasis

Al Ain Oasis covers 1,200 hectares and provides a unique insight into the region's inhabitants who began taming the desert 4,000 years ago. Located in the centre of Al Ain, the oasis is a 90-minute drive away from the capital and free to enter. Here, visitors can get up close to a traditional falaj, an ancient irrigation system that today nourishes local grasslands and over 147,000 date palms and fruit trees.
